The Johanniter organisation chooses NEXUS / ECM as its IHE-based document management system

The Johanniter organisation for outpatient facilities, governed by Johanniter GmbH, has decided to launch an IHE-compliant document management and archiving system Germany-wide. In an internal tender procedure, NEXUS was awarded the contract for all three tranches with its ECM system.

The solution agreed with the Johanniter Competence Center GmbH (JCC GmbH), the IT service provider of the Johanniter organisation, involves the introduction of an IHE archive for medical information. The ECM system provided by NEXUS merges patient data and documents from various subsystems in one consolidated record. It maps both the IHE registry and repository and serves as a document source and document consumer. Depending on the institution, different hospital information systems are connected to it, such as i.s.h.med, iMedOne and Orbis. To view documents, it features the integrated multi-format and MPG-compliant viewer from NEXUS.

For administrative purposes, the system includes a DMS with workflow functionalities for accounting and contract management. The aim is to process invoices with the greatest possible degree of automation and SAP connectivity, from receipt of incoming mail to approval through to entry in the accounts. The digital contracts record is being introduced to monitor costs and contract terms, and make it easier to find contractual information.

The signed framework agreement includes the system implementation in 13 hospitals, specialist and rehabilitation clinics with around 3,000 beds managed by Johanniter GmbH and its central service providers.

“NEXUS offered the most compelling and appropriate overall package for implementation of the Johanniter Association’s digital strategy in the areas of IHE-compliant document management and archiving,” said Ralf Hörstgen, Manager of JCC GmbH, explaining their decision.

Roll-out begins in April at the Evangelical Hospital Bethesda in Mönchengladbach, which is acting as pilot hospital. All components should be implemented by the end of the year. This will be followed by a gradual roll-out to other hospitals. The “JCC Blueprint Procedure” will then be used in the most important sub-projects. A guideline drawn up during the pilot phase will help with the further implementation and minimise costs. In the administrative area, digital receipt of incoming mail and the introduction of personnel, project and management records are planned in the future.
